The 2009 Counselors...

Mark Rosser has many years of experience as a camp director and as an ultimate player and coach. In 1985 Rosser started an ultimate club at Duke University and served as the captain of the squad for the next two years. Mark also worked at a tennis camp (The Tennis Farm) for 18 years. From 1990-1998 he was the director of several of their branches, including the branches at Springside School, Friends Select School, and Radnor High School. Mark also has 15 years experience in the classroom, teaching at Woodlynde School and Lower Merion High School. In 2000 Mark founded the Philadelphia High school Ultimate Educational League (PHUEL). This spring there will be approximately 30 high schools competing in the league. Additional information on the league is available on the PHUEL 2006 link to the left. Mark was a member of the Philadelphia masters team that competed in the national championships in 2000 and 2001. Mark also served on the Board of PADA in 1998-1999 and was chosen as the recipient of the Breed Ultimate Award in 1999.

Jim Brose is the founder and former captain of the Philadelphia Masters team One Last Ditch Shot At Glory (OLD SAG). The team has competed in the national championships in Florida the past 5 years. In 2002 they were the National Masters Champion (ages 33 and over), and have won the silver medal at Worlds in Perth, Australia in 2006. Jim is a practicing lawyer and has served as President of the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance, a group of approximately 1000 members who play ultimate in the Philadelphia area. Jim is also the owner of Disc Films, a company which makes ultimate videos.

This year the CFO (Chief Frisbee Officer) will be Sam Sackett - Sam has over nine years of professional teaching experience. Sam also has many years of ultimate coaching experience through a variety of positions. In addition to being a high school coach, Sam has served as coach of a women's team, and captained his college team and PADA league teams. As a player, Sam is respected in Philadelphia and throughout the country for his knowledge, enthusiasm, and ability. Since 1985 Sam has been playing club ultimate, playing on teams in Cincinnati, Madison, and Philadelphia. Sam has taught ultimate to all levels of players. In addition to his coaching experience and his involvement in PADA's leagues, Sam has competed at the highest level. He has competed at the UPA's National Championships four times, first at College Nationals in 1990, then at Open Division Club Nationals in 1998, and finally in 2002 and 2003 in the Masters Division of Club Nationals. The 2002 experience was particularly satisfying for Sam and his Philadelphia teammates as they earned the title of National Champions in the Masters Division. Sam has also competed at the World Club Championships in Germany (1989), Madison, Wisconsin (1993), and England (1995).

"Big" Rick Atkins - played for U.Penn's Void, Philadelphia Rage and then OLD SAG (2002 UPA National Champs team). Rick has won a college national championship, a masters national championship, and a world championship - he has been featured in the recent history book - "Ultimate: The First Four Decades". The trophy for PADA's summer league champion is named in his honor.

Kayla Burnim - Kayla started playing ultimate nine years ago on the Amherst
Middle School team in Massachusetts. Since then she has won three high
school national championships with the Amherst Womens team. In 2004 she
captained the US Women's Junior National team, which won a silver medal at
the World Ultimate Championships in Finland. She has played on various club
teams, including the Philly Peppers, and currently captains the University
of Delaware women's ultimate team. As captain, she recently led her team to
a berth in the 2006 College National Championships.

Ben Ditzler - Ben "Ditz" Ditzler has been playing ultimate since 1997, including 4 years for Philadelphia elite men's ultimate teams and 4 years at Lehigh University, where he served as team captain and was a Callahan Award nominee. For the past 4 years, Ditz has been the head coach of the Haverford High ultimate team and helped build the team into one of the top youth programs in the state.

Matt McCabe - Matt started playing ultimate in 2002 at St. Joe's Prep where he helped establish a team, in 2005 he won the PHUEL Spirit of the Game award. He went on to play for the University of Pittsburgh where he is currently in his senior year. He also runs PlayUltimate and designed this really sweet-looking website

Carly Maconaghy - Carly started playing ultimate 5 years ago at Central Bucks High School East, captaining the team her senior year. Last year she was awarded a silver medal and the spirit award at the 2007 Youth Club Championships with Sepda, and made it to the 2007 Club National Tournament with Wicked. This year Carly started her freshman year at Penn State who placed 5th at regionals. During the year Carly made the USA Junior National team as an Alternate, and was awarded the Metro East Freshman of the Year award. Carly now looks forward to playing in the upcoming club season with Hooray.

Raha Mozaffari - Raha started playing ultimate her Junior year at Wissahickon High School with a group of mostly guys. She just finished playing four years of college ultimate for UPenn. She led her team to a heart-breaking but strong finish to the season at regionals this past Spring. She was selected for one of seven Metro-East All-Region player in 2007 and 2008. She also plays for the Philadelphia Mixed Club Team, AMP. This is her 3rd year playing. AMP finished 3rd in the nation last year and is on its way to win nationals this year. This is Raha's first time at Philadelphia Ultimate Camp but she is very excited to be a part of it.

Steve Wherry - played for the Philadelphia Rage and was captain of OLD SAG (2002 UPA National Champs team). Steve has been captain of several PADA League Championships

Samantha Wittchen - has been playing ultimate since 1998, when she started with the University of Virginia Women's Ultimate Team. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2001, she has played with Donkey Bomb, Electric Mayhem and her current team, Philly KRU. Over the years, she's traveled nationally and internationally to play at tournaments, including Paganello in Italy. She's captained PADA summer league for the past four years and has taught at the Philly Ultimate Camp for the past two years.
